With joint effort of Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the wines of 30 family wineries and 5 small wine factories will be tasted in Leipzig, Germany, what is another good case of Georgian wine promotion.

The event is organized in the frame of the Manager Training Program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) funded by GIZ and managed by Enterprise Georgia – Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and CONOSCOPE GMBH.

 

30 Georgian family wineries and 5 small size wine factories have already registered more than 100 types of Georgian wines at tasting event, mostly natural and raw wines, few are conventional wines.

 

In cooperation with Georgian National Wine Agency, universities and professional wine associations, the plan is to continue wine tastings organised by GBDC during the year in cities of Germany.

 

In frames of Manager Training Program, GBDC Executive Director, Sergo Baramidze together with representatives of Georgian SMEs will be visiting Leipzig from 27th of June until July 11th. During the visit the following activities are planned by GBDC:

 

-B2B meetings with German wine importers to sign standby agreements for the supply and distribution of Georgian natural, raw and conventional wines

 

-B2C meetings with wine bars and restaurants in Leipzig to organize informal wine tastings

 

-meetings with manufacturers of wine production equipment, ones that can provide grape processing equipment, wine tanks, bottling equipment, etc. required by small size natural wine-producing wineries in Georgia, with maximum capacity of producing 5000 to 25000 bottles of wine annually.

 

– meetings in other regions of Germany to observe demonstration vineyards to increase awareness about sources of natural winemaking.

 

GBDC history of capacity development of winemakers, natural and raw wine promotion and trade assistance so far:

 

In 2017 GBDC assisted  winery cooperative members in Georgia to improve productivity of their vineyards and wine production capacities through training in bio viticulture, what has been managed in the frames of EU funded ENPARD program.

 

 

In 2018 – 2021, in frames of IFAD/DANIDA funded program “Young Entrepreneur”, implemented by Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, GBDC assisted more than 10 vineyard owners and family wineries to raise grants.

 

In 2019 GBDC has organized a Georgian wine tasting event in Paris before co-vid 19 pandemic started and made trial sales of wines in a few restaurants in Paris, with repeated orders. Please see the link for details http://gbdc.ge/winery/christmas-georgian-national-wine-tasting-event-in-paris/
